B.J. Cyprian

I am a dreamer, a creator, a perpetual student of life and the beauty that always exists within the chaos. Brought up in a small and religious Texas town, I have spent my life as an artist in search of the right medium. From drummer to author, singer to narrator, the same underlying message drives my work: love. In a world full of cacaphony and dissent, my vision is always about love and connection.

I bring to the table a new voice, a voice that has created itself out of pain, trauma, and healing its scars with gold; a voice needed today; a voice that can entertain as well as teach; a voice that seeks to find the beauty in the pain and in the commonality of all people; a voice willing and eager learn but aching to share as well.

I’m looking for my people, former and future diamonds in the rough, those who may not have been or may not yet be polished for display but who have so much shine to bring. While I may be new to the party, my stories have been brewing for over 40 years, and it’s time now to tell them. Have a conversation with me; you’ll be glad you did.

Who are you?

That’s the first question people want answered. The short answer: my name is B.J. Cyprian and I’m a storyteller. I have a keen ability to relate to people, and I use this skill to celebrate the similarities within diversity in my writing.

I’m often asked who I sound like, and I’ve thought about this for a long time. The truth is, I sound like my mother, my sister, my friends and my family. I embody the voices of the world around me. My stories all start with a question. For instance, in my 2nd Novel, The Gray Line, I started with the question: What would happen if a grief group ran in to a vigilante? For Site 87, my first TV pilot, I asked: What would happen if the government had a retirement home for spies? I excel at character development and layered themes. I have a unique voice, and I honestly cannot say that I sound like anyone.

Which brings me to “Why now?” I could go through a litany of reasons I spent almost 30 years self-sabotaging myself with doubts, but I believe the answer to that question is: Now is my time. The world needs a diverse voice seeking to unify with laughter, humanity and empathy.
